Breakthrough 2: Scientific Reports — Establishing the First Localized 3D Facial Database for Chinese Women
Published in Nature’s Scientific Reports, EveLab Insight participated in a nationwide multi-center study investigating facial dermal exposure-related parameters and skincare behaviors among adult women across six representative Chinese cities (covering 5,081 participants aged 18–65).
As the official technology provider, the Eve System served as the 3D optical imaging engine, utilizing multi-view depth imaging and point-cloud fusion to achieve fully automated, high-precision 3D facial mesh reconstruction.
- Unveiling True Localized Parameters: The study recorded an average 3D facial surface area of 393.8 cm² for Chinese adult women—breaking the long-standing reliance on Western default metrics (such as the European SCCS default of 565 cm²) and aligning closer to the US EPA estimation of 380 cm².
- Systemic Differences Between 2D and 3D: The findings proved that 2D planar projections and 3D volumetric surface areas exhibit systemic differences and cannot be used interchangeably, highlighting 3D spatial measurement as essential for accurate dose and exposure assessments.
- BMI as a Key Determinant: Overturning traditional age-centric assumptions, the research revealed that BMI and regional city variations exert a stronger impact on 3D facial surface area than age-related physiological changes.
